Natural Ways to Clear Acne

HeartseaseExtreme cases of acne will need to be treated for medical and cosmetic purposes. But whatever the cause of your acne it is important to remember not to squeeze a pustule with your fingers, instead clean it with a gentle tincture.

Acne can also be treated with steam inhalation treatments and compresses containing natural substances. Neat lemon juice can be effective, as it has antibacterial properties.

Below are a variety of traditional methods to tackle acne, all are natural and are before chemicals become abundant.


Anti-Acne Tonic

This can be taken as a drink internally or used externally as a face wash. Heartsease is a good skin cleanser for people with eczema or stubborn acne, while Iceland lichen relieves irritations and horsetail promotes the healing process

  • 25g (1oz) dried eyebright leaves
  • 25g (1oz) dried heartsease leaves
  • 500ml (18fl oz) water
  • 15g (1/2 oz) dried Iceland lichen
  • 15g (1/2 oz) dried horsetail ‘needles’ and stems

Mix the herbs together and place 2 teaspoons in a heatproof bowl. Boil the water and pour it over the herbs. Leave to infuse for 10 minutes. Strain off the liquid and drink a cup three times a day. Or apply the tonic to your skin using a cotton-wool pad.

Lavender Vinegar

Surprisingly this natural treatment is a reliable remedy for acne. The ingredients are:

  • 15g (1/2 oz) dried arnica flowers
  • 25g (1 oz) dried lavender
  • 750ml (1pint 7fl oz) cider vinegar

LavenderFirstly, mix the ingredients in a jug and pour the mixture into a bottle, which can be sealed tightly. Leave to infuse for 2 weeks, shaking the bottle regularly. Filter the solution and add it to water when you wash your face.

 


Lavender Oil

Lavender helps protects and cares for irritated skin, using the following ingredients you can create oil that you can apply to your skin:

  • 5 drops of lavender oil
  • 5 drops of almond oil

Mix the oils in a bowel, then dip a cotton wool pad into the oil and apply to your skin. Repeat this application twice a day.

Papaya Mask

You will find that Papaya can make an effective treatment for blackheads.

  • 1 ripe papaya
  • 2-3 tablespoons single cream

Remove the skin and seeds from the fruit. Once pealed, place the flesh in a bowl and mash it with a fork then mix in the cream. Apply the mask to your skin using your fingers, leaving it on for 30 minutes then rinse off thoroughly.

Trigonella Compress

This compress can help painful boils that might be needed to be lanced.

  • 1 tablespoon trigonella seeds
  • 1 tablespoon boiling water

Firstly, you will need to grind the seeds using a pestle or a mortar, then add the water and mix it into a paste. Spread the paste onto a gauze cloth and, while it is still hot, apply the compress to the boil. Repeat this several times.
